Because of the importance of vision to quality of life, it is the position of the Healthy Sight Institute that everyone has the right to Healthy Sight.

Healthy Sight is not synonymous with normal vision. Despite advances in the diagnosis and therapy of various conditions that can lead to blindness or visual impairment, it may not be possible to provide normal vision to everyone. What is possible, however, is to use the principles of Healthy Sight Counseling to maximize the quantity and the quality of vision that can be achieved in the individual and to try to protect and preserve that vision for a lifetime of Healthy Sight. This is important for the 75% of the estimated 37 million people worldwide who are blind due to eye disease where vision loss is potentially preventable or treatable. It is even more important for the estimated 153 million individuals worldwide who are blind or visually impaired due to uncorrected refractive error and where the prescription of a simple pair of eyeglasses could mean the difference between seeing and not seeing.

For eye care professionals, it is important to practice Healthy Sight Counseling to ensure that patients under their care achieve Healthy Sight and expand the process to encourage both ocular and systemic health and well-being so that Healthy Sight and Healthy Life become a continuum.

What Is Healthy Sight?

Healthy Sight is the enhancement of the overall everyday quantity and quality of vision and the preservation of long-term ocular health. In other words, seeing well now, and continuing to see well in the future.
