Sheila Johnson will serve as the Healthy Sight Ambassador to the Healthy Sight Institute and in this role will help spearhead the Institute’s mission to educate about the critical role healthy sight plays in helping achieve a healthy life. Ms. Johnson is a highly-successful CEO, film producer and philanthropist. She was a founding partner of Black Entertainment Television (BET) and is the only African-American woman to have ownership in three professional sports teams, including the WNBA’s Washington Mystics, the NBA’s Washington Wizards and the NHL’s Washington Capitals. As founder and CEO of her company, Salamandar Hospitality, she oversees a growing portfolio of luxury properties.
In 2006 she was named global ambassador for CARE, a leading humanitarian organization fighting global poverty by empowering women because they have the unique power to help entire communities escape poverty. She is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. Sheila is dedicated to the idea that achieving healthy sight is paramount to accomplishing other goals, such as education and economic empowerment.

Dr. Bruce Bode is a diabetes specialist with Atlanta Diabetes Associates and
past president of the Georgia affiliate of the American Diabetes Association
(ADA). He has served on the board of directors of the Atlanta chapters of
the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, the ADA, and Georgia Diabetes camps.
Dr. Bode received his MD degree from Emory University School of Medicine and
his bachelor’s degree in biology from the College of Wooster in Wooster,
Ohio. He completed a fellowship in diabetes with Paul C. Davidson, MD, and
an internship and residency at Emory University Affiliated Hospitals.
Dr. Bode is editor of the ADA’s 2004 edition of Medical Management of
Type 1 Diabetes. He has also written or contributed to several other
books, including Diabetes DEK: How to Control and Manage
Diabetes Mellitus and The Insulin Pump Therapy Book: Insights
from the Experts. He is a member of the medical advisory board of Diabetes
Interview, Medtronic Diabetes, sanofi-aventis, and Novo Nordisk.
In addition, Dr. Bode has authored or co-authored numerous articles and
abstracts for professional journals such as Diabetes, Diabetes
Care, The Journal of New Developments in Clinical Medicine, Diabetes
Metabolism Research and Reviews, and Diabetes Spectrum. |

Dr. Paul Brant has been a practicing optometrist for 30 years. He has served both as president of the Maryland Optometric Association (MOA) and as a member of its board of directors; he has also held many other executive positions with the MOA. In addition, Dr. Brant has chaired several committees with Vision Service Plan (VSP), and has been a member of the VSP board of directors for 6 years; he currently is the chairman of the VSP Patient and Providers Relations Committee. Dr. Brant has briefed Capitol Hill legislative aides on the importance of primary eye care in diabetes management, and was interviewed on the Today Show about Vision USA. He was named "Optometrist of the Year" by the Maryland Optometric Association in 1994, and also received the Melvin Waxman Award for distinguished service to the MOA in 2005. |

Dr. Alberto Calle-Vásquez completed his medical education at the Juan N. Corpas
School of Medicine and his residency training at the San Rafael University
Hospital and Clinic and at Nueva Granada Military University in Bogotá. He
held fellowships in ultrasound and ophthalmic photography at Bascom Palmer
Eye Institute in Miami and in ocular and orbital oncology at Wills Eye Hospital,
Thomas Jefferson University, in Philadelphia.
Dr. Calle-Vásquez is currently associate professor of ophthalmology and director
of the Orbit and Oncology Unit at the San Rafael University Hospital and
Clinic and Military Central Hospital, a department of the Nueva Granada Military
University and Calle Ophthalmic Center in Bogotá.
Among Dr. Calle-Vásquez’s areas of interest and clinical research are orbital
trauma, orbital oncology, multidisciplinary orbit reconstructive surgery,
and ocular oncology. He is a consultant on orbit tumors for the Pan American
Association of Ophthalmology. His professional memberships include the American
Academy of Ophthalmology, the International Society of Ocular Oncology, and
the International Society of Orbital Disorders, among many others.
Dr. Calle-Vásquez has spearheaded several clinical trials and participated
in over 30 research protocols; he is a member of the editorial board of more
than 10 scientific publications. His work has been honored with awards from
the Junior Chamber International and the AAO, among others. |

Dr. Prema K. Chande is a graduate of the Elite School of Optometry in Chennai, India, and is a Fellow of the International Association of Contact Lens Educators of Australia (FIACLE). She also holds a diploma in business administration from ICFAI University in Hyderabad, India. Dr. Chande has worked as a clinical optometrist, contact lens specialist, low vision consultant, and consultant optometrist at various practices and hospitals in Mumbai.
Dr. Chande has served as Regional Professional Services Manager for the Ciba Vision division of Novartis India Limited, and has participated in and conducted several training programs for practitioners between1998 and 2000. In addition to dealing with Ciba Vision contact lens products, she helped launch its ophthalmic drugs division in India and trained over 250 medical representatives to market ophthalmic drugs.
In 2000, Dr. Chande helped establish Mumbai’s first 4-year-degree Optometry program, the Lotus College of Optometry. The College is an active participant in all Vision 2020 activities, and Dr. Chande works with various non-governmental organizations including the Lions Club International Foundation, ORBIS International, and Sight Savers, for eradication of childhood blindness.
Dr. Chande teaches at the Lotus College of Optometry, and is a practicing optometrist at the Roshni Eye Care, Optometry and Contact Lens Clinic, Navi Mumbai. She was an external examiner and guest lecturer for S.N.D.T. Women’s University’s diploma program in ophthalmic technology and the JPMT School of Optometry in Pune. Dr. Chande was honored with the “DRIVISA” award in 1998 for her contribution to optometric education. She is a member-at-large (Executive Committee member) for the Asia Pacific Council of Optometry. |

Dr. Robert Chappell is president of the World Council of Optometry (WCO), which represents over 250,000 optometrists in 40 countries. The WCO’s mission is to facilitate the enhancement and development of eye and vision care worldwide. He is also a member of the General Optical Council, the United Kingdom's regulatory body for optometrists and dispensing opticians.
Dr. Chappell is a past president and past treasurer of the College of Optometrists. An alumnus of City University (London), he serves on the Advisory Committees of both the University itself and its Institute of Health Sciences. He is also a trustee of the International Association for the Prevention of Blindness and the UK Optometry Giving Sight Committee, a world outreach program, and immediate past president of the European Council of Optometry and Optics. A proponent of international credentialing, he is joint author of the WCO Global Competency model and has been closely involved in the development of the European Diploma.
In his optometric practice, Dr. Chappell specializes in the treatment of specific learning difficulties (ie, dyslexia). He is also chairman of Sight Care Trading, part of a marketing group owned by 600 independent optometric practices. He was awarded an OBE in the 1995 Queen's Birthday Honours for his contribution to optometry. |

Dr. Joseph Colin received his postgraduate medical education at Brest University Medical School and Nantes University, both in France, where he specialized in anterior segment surgery. He subsequently became Professor of Ophthalmology and Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology at Brest University Medical School. He is currently Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology at Bordeaux University Medical School.
Dr. Colin is a past president of the French National University Council for Ophthalmology and a current board member of both the French Society of Refractive Surgery and the French Eye Bank. He was also on the board of the National French Ophthalmological Society from 2001 to 2008, serving as president for 3 years. He is also active in several international professional groups, including the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the International Society of Refractive Surgery, and the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, for which he initiated the European educational program for refractive surgery.
Among his clinical projects have been the development of a new femtolaser for ocular surgery, trials of novel phakic intraocular lenses, and the development of new technologies for the diagnosis and management of corneal ectasia. He has also helped establish a national reference center for keratoconus for the French Ministry of Health, and is co-director of the French educational programs for cataract and refractive surgery and for contact lenses.
Dr. Colin’s achievements have been recognized with numerous honors, including a 1988 AAO Honor Award, the 1999 ISRS Lans Award, the 2005 U.K. ISCRS John Pierce medal, and a 2007 AAO Senior Achievement Award. |

Dr. Victor J. Connors, a primary care optometric practitioner, has been in
private practice in Middleton, Wisconsin since 1971, when he received his
OD degree from Illinois College of Optometry. He is a past president of the
Madison Area Optometric Society, the Wisconsin Optometric Association, the
North Central States Optometric Council, the American Optometric Association,
and the World Council of Optometry.
Most recently, Dr. Connors was instrumental in establishing the US division
of Optometry Giving Sight—the optometric fundraising foundation that supports
giving sight globally through sustainable optometric education and care systems;
he currently serves as Chairman of the Board. His many years of business,
church, and civic volunteerism have been directed at assuring that all citizens
have a chance for quality of life through strong community health, social,
and economic opportunities. In recognition of his efforts, he has received
the Middleton Seratoma "Service to Mankind" award, the Middleton Chamber
of Commerce "Business Person of the Year" award, the Wisconsin Optometric Association’s
"Optometrist of the Year" Award, the North Central States Optometric Council’s
Leadership Award, and the Illinois College of Optometry Alumni’s Leadership
Award.
Dr. Connors is the immediate past president of the World Council of Optometry.
He remains active in a group optometric primary care practice with Drs. Scott
Jens and Connie Copeland in the Madison, Wisconsin area. |

Dr. El Matri is Head of Service at Institut Hedi Rais d’Ophtalmologie de Tunis in Tunisia. She has served as president of the Tunisian Society of Ophthalmology since 2004, and she has also served as treasurer and as secretary general of that organization in the past. She holds the position of Professor at the Faculty of Medicine of Tunis, where she serves as head of ocular genetic research and is a member of the research teams studying uveitis and Behçet’s disease. She has been a member of ACERO, the French Society of Ophthalmology, the Pan Arab African Council of Ophthalmology, and she was a founding member of the Arab Ophthalmic Association. She was secretary and treasurer of the 7th Pan Arab African Council of Ophthalmology congress in 2003. She has also been a member of the Club Jules Gonin.
Dr. El Matri has published numerous research and review articles in worldwide medical journals on topics including ocular genetics, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, retinal diseases (in particular genetics and emerging treatments), and ocular inflammations. Since 1999, she has been the Chief Editor of the Tunisian Journal of Ophthalmology. |

Mary Field switched careers from high school teacher to optician in 1973, and has been highly active in the field ever since. She has served as Education Chair and President of the Opticians of Manitoba, and Interim Executive Director of the Opticians of British Columbia. She is the current Chief Administrative Officer for National Affairs of the Opticians Association of Canada (OAC) and is the OAC media contact on issues of national importance. Her role in the OAC has also included meetings throughout Canada with provincial governments in support of such legislative initiatives as sight testing.
Ms. Field represents the OAC on the Board of the National Coalition for Vision Health. Because of her considerable experience in the development and support of opticianry legislation and regulation, she is often invited to act as resource and advisor to Canadian association and regulatory boards.
She has used her experience as an educator to develop training programs and continuing education programs for the Opticians Association of Canada. She is also a columnist for Vision Magazine. |

Prof. Pier Enrico Gallenga was born in Parma, Italy, where his father Riccardo (1904-1976) was head of the University Eye Clinic. Dr. Gallenga received his degree in ophthalmology at Torino University (1971), and interned at Vienna University and Zurich University. He then served for 14 years (1967-1980) at the University Eye Clinic of Ferrara. Since 1981, Dr. Gallenga has served as full professor and head of the Institute of Ophthalmology at G. d’Annunzio University in Chieti, Italy.
Dr. Gallenga is a pioneer in the fields of diagnostic ultrasound in ophthalmology and intraocular lens implantation, and he is an expert on biomaterials for ocular and orbital surgery. Other research interests include ocular pharmacology (FANS, heparin, CsA, MMC, quinolons), ocular surgery (glaucoma valves), ocular syndromes and signs (Gallenga’s sign in echophthalmology; Graves’ orbitopathy), eye and posture (identification of Chieti index in postural balance), diagnostic tools, ophthalmic history, paleopathology, and ophthalmic pain.
Dr. Gallenga is the winner of the AICCER Pioneer Award for his work on IOLs and the SIDUO Pioneer Award, and he gave the prestigious Strampelli lecture in 2005. He is a member of AAO, and was a founding member of ESCRS. He served as vice president of the Italian Ophthalmological Society (SOI) in 2000 and 2005, and was president of the National Federation of Ethical Committees from 1995 to 2005. |

Elaine Grisdale, a qualified Dispensing Optician, is the Head of Professional Services and Principal Examiner in Professional Conduct of the Association of British Dispensing Opticians (ABDO). She is responsible for ABDO’s Continuing Education and Training program, and is involved in ABDO negotiations with various bodies on legislatory issues.
Following a short time in practice, Ms. Grisdale began working in the industry/marketing side of opticianry, helping to introduce French lens manufacturer BBGR to the UK. Beginning in 1985, she spent 3 years at Essilor UK, first as a lens consultant and then as area sales manager. In 1989, she moved to Essilor International, where she initially worked in international sales, marketing, and education before becoming Head of International Professional Relations for Opticianry and Optometry. In 1998, she conceived and implemented Varilux University, the first European continuing education center dedicated to presbyopia and the aging eye.
Ms. Grisdale has lectured extensively throughout the world on presbyopia and related subjects and has co-authored a manual of optometry in Chinese with Irwin M. Borish, OD. |

Dr. Newton Kara José graduated from Botucatu Medical School in Botucatu, Brazil, and has spent time as a graduate and postgraduate student at ophthalmology institutes in England, the United States, and Argentina. Today he is chief of the Cataract Department of the Hospital das Clínicas da Faculdade de Medicina at the University of Säo Paulo, Brazil.
In 2001 Dr. Kara José coordinated the first multicentric course of cataract surgery by Video Conference in Brazil, which was simultaneously broadcast to seven different cities. His study of the cost-effectiveness of phacoemulsification cataract surgery in the Brazilian public health system was the basis of his 2008 PhD dissertation. In 2004, he turned his attention to intraocular lenses as a means of extending and amplifying the benefits of cataract surgery. His plans for the future include technical and administrative improvement of his hospital and department, clinical research and teaching, and improvement of ophthalmologic services to the community. |

Dr. Lawrence D. Lampert is a board-certified optometrist with a private practice in Boca Raton, Florida. A 1984 graduate of the Pennsylvania College of Optometry, Dr. Lampert has specialized in sports vision training and developmental vision, working with professional athletes in sports ranging from golf to tennis and baseball. His patients have included members of the PGA, LPGA, New York Yankees, Chicago Cubs, and Miami Dolphins. He has also worked closely with high school athletes who have been drafted by professional teams. A charter member of the Neuro-Optometric Rehabilitation Association, he is also a member of the American, Florida, and Palm Beach Optometric societies and is the former chairman of the Southeast Regional Clinical Seminar for the Optometric Extension Program. Dr. Marc Lustig is a board certified pediatric ophthalmologist and strabismus surgeon with a private practice in Manhattan.
After earning combined MD and PhD degrees at the New York University School of Medicine, he completed his fellowship training at the NYU Medical Center and Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital in pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus. His doctoral thesis, supported in part by an NIH grant, addressed the role of specific growth factors involved in the early neurodevelopment of the visual pathways.
Dr. Lustig performs the majority of his pediatric eye surgery at the NYU Medical Center and is also an attending surgeon at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary. He is a dedicated volunteer paramedic for a local ambulance corps. |

Dr. Marín studied medicine at Universidad Mayor de San Andrés in La Paz, Bolivia, and received his degree in medicine and surgery in 1998. He went on to receive advanced training in ophthalmologic surgery at Hospital Militar de la Universidad del Ejercito y Fuerza Aerea de Mexico (the Mexican Air Force Military Hospital), matriculating in 2004. He received additional specialty training in anterior segment science and refractive surgery.
Dr. Marín has taught anatomy and physiology at Escuela de Technicos Radiologos de la Sociedad Mexicana de Radiologia. He served on the medical staff of the Ver Bien Laser Center Mexico during 2006 and 2007. In 2006 he received a degree in Hospital Quality Management through the University of Mexico. He is a certified member of Consejo Mexicano de Oftalmologia (the Mexican Council of Ophthalmology) and a member of Sociedad Mexicana de Oftalmologos Militares (the Mexican Society of Military Ophthalmologists). Currently, Dr. Marín serves on the surgical staff of PM Laser Center and the ophthalmology staff of Hospital General de Pachuca, which is overseen by the Mexican Department of Health. |

John Marshall, PhD, is the Frost Professor of Ophthalmology and Chairman of the Academic Department of Ophthalmology, at St Thomas' Hospital in London, UK. He was Sembal Professor of Experimental Ophthalmology at the Institute of Ophthalmology from 1982-1991.
Professor Marshall’s research over the past forty years has ranged over a number of ocular problems but has concentrated on the interrelationships between light and ageing, the mechanisms underlying age-related, diabetic and inherited retinal disease, and the development of lasers for use in ophthalmic diagnosis and surgery. This work has resulted in almost four hundred research papers and numerous book chapters and books. His research had direct bearing on the development of excimer laser technology for the correction of refractive disorders.
Professor Marshall’s is editor and co-editor of numerous international journals. He has been awarded the Nettleship Medal of the Ophthalmological Society of the United Kingdom, the Mackenzie Medal, the Raynor Medal, the Ridley Medal, the Ashton Medal, the Ida Mann Medal and the Lord Crook Gold Medal of the Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers, the Doyne Medal of the Oxford Congress, the Barraquer Medal of the International Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the Kelman Innovator Award of the American Society for Refractive and Cataract surgery, and the Lim Medal of the Singapore National Eye Centre. In addition, he has been visiting professor at numerous universities throughout the world.
Professor Marshall has held posts chairing the medical advisory boards of many international companies and was a director of Diomed, the leading supplier of diode laser systems for surgery. He sits and chairs many national and international committees concerned with protecting the public against the possible damaging effects of lasers and other artificial light sources and played an active role with the ICRC in addressing the United Nations to obtain a Geneva Convention banning the use of anti-personnel laser weapons. He is currently the Chairman of the Medical and Scientific Advisory Board and Trustee of the British Retinitis Pigmentosa Society, and until 1995 he was Co-Chairman of the Medical and Scientific Advisory Board of the International Retinitis Pigmentosa Association. He is the scientific adviser to the National Eye Research Centre. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists, also an Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, an Honorary Fellow of The College of Optometrists, a Fellow and Director of the Laser Institute of America, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and an Honorary Fellow of Cardiff University. He has a Senior Achievement Award of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the Euretina Award of theEuropean Society of Retinal Surgeons.He is also a Fellow of several national ophthalmological societies, as well as being elected to the European Academy of Ophthalmology. |

Dr. Naidoo, the 2007 International Optometrist of the Year, completed his Bachelor of Optometry degree at the University of Durban-Westville. As a Fulbright scholar in Philadelphia, he studied concurrently for both a master’s degree in public health and an optometry degree (OD).
He is currently Global Programs Director for ICEE (The International Centre for Eyecare Education), a non-governmental organization focusing on refractive errors and low vision in the elimination of avoidable blindness, which he jointly founded with Prof. Brien Holden in 1998.
Dr. Naidoo is also an associate professor in the University of KwaZulu-Natal’s Optometry Department, an adjunct faculty member at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry, and president-elect of the African Council of Optometry (AFCO). He serves on the Vision 2020 Task Force and is the co-chair of the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) in Africa. |

Dr. Rao is founder and Director of the LV Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI) in India. He is a world renowned expert in blindness prevention, and he has served as Secretary General (1998—2004 )and as Chairman, Board of Trustees and President (2004—2008) of the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness. He has also played a key role in initiating, coordinating and mobilizing activities of the World Health Organization’s initiative, Vision 2020: The Right to Sight.
Dr. Rao’s main areas of interest include community eye health, health policy and planning, healthcare reforms, and corneal diseases and eye banking. He has published research on models of eye care delivery, sustainability and eye banking models.
Dr. Rao holds one of the Chairs of the Academia Ophthalmologica Internationalis. He has served as president of the Asia Pacific Region and Member of the Board of the International Association of Contact Lens Educators since 1995, and he is also the current president-elect of the Asia Pacific Society for Cornea & Refractive Surgery. He holds memberships in the International Council of Ophthalmology, the International Advisory Committee of the International Federation of Eye Banks, and ORBIS International. He has received numerous awards including the Ranbaxy Research Award for contributions to medical science (1995), Outstanding Service Award of the Association of Asian Indians in Ophthalmology in the US (1984), Senior Honor Award of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (1998), Honorary Doctorate of Science from University of New South Wales, Australia (2001), Padma Shri – Republic Day Civilian Award from the President of India (2002), the first “Global Visionary in Ophthalmology” Award of Bausch & Lomb (2003), “Fellow qua surgeon” of the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons, Glasgow (2003). Dr. Resnikoff is an international expert in global public health, specializing in health promotion and chronic disease prevention and management. From 2004 to 2007, he coordinated various World Health Organization (WHO) programs aiming to prevent and manage noncommunicable diseases such as cancer, diabetes, and cardiovascular, respiratory, genetic, ear, and eye diseases.
From 1999 until 2004, Dr. Resnikoff led the Program for the Prevention of Blindness and Deafness, which aims to make essential eye and ear care available to all. Since joining the WHO in 1995, he has developed public health strategies and built global partnerships such as Vision 2020, involving governments, academic institutions, non-governmental organizations, and private-sector groups.
Before joining the WHO, Dr. Resnikoff worked for 14 years in developing countries, mainly in sub-Saharan Africa, on assignments from the French government to strengthen local and national capacity in disease prevention and control. These assignments included epidemiologic, clinical, and operational research, as well as international program planning, implementation, and evaluation. From 1989 to 1995, he was the director of the Institute of African Tropical Ophthalmology, a WHO Collaborating Center.
Dr. Resnikoff holds a PhD from Paris University, an MD from Bordeaux University, and postgraduate degrees in ophthalmology, tropical medicine, public health, epidemiology, and biostatistics. He has received numerous awards for his contributions to research and program implementation. |

Dr. Santiago was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico. He obtained a BS degree in physics and mathematics with high honors at the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez Campus; completed Master’s and Doctor of Science degrees at the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences of the University of Texas at Houston; and continued studies toward the OD degree at the New England College of Optometry (Boston, Massachusetts). Beginning in 1984, he was associated with the Inter American University of Puerto Rico School of Optometry, where he held various administrative positions, including Dean (1997-2008). He was appointed Dean of the Arizona College of Optometry of Midwestern University in 2008.
Dr. Santiago is a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, past president of the Association of Schools and Colleges of Optometry, first vice president of the Puerto Rico Optometric Association, and secretary-treasurer of the Latin American Association of Optometry and Optics. During recent years, he has been involved in diversity issues and in the promotion of cultural competence within the profession.
He has published articles in numerous scientific and professional journals and has been an invited lecturer in the United States, Spain, Italy, Colombia, Venezuela, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Chile, México, Ecuador, Costa Rica, and Perú. |

Mary Seguiti has more than 25 years of service to and experience in the optical
industry. She received her AAS in Ophthalmic Dispensing from Hillsborough
Community College and her BA in Business Management from Eckerd College,
and has been a Florida board certified optician since 1985. She managed the
Florida Eye Center, a multi-faceted ophthalmologic practice specializing
in pediatric contact lenses and geriatric vision care, and she has participated
in numerous clinical studies on optical lens technology.
An impassioned educator, Ms. Seguiti has developed new curricula for the National
Federation of Opticianry Schools. She has been on the Advisory Panel for the
Opticianry program at Hillsborough Community College (HCC) since 1992 and is
an adjunct faculty member of that institution. Mary is also an education developer
for Transitions Optical and has been the HCC Opticianry Program Liaison to the
West Coast board of the Professional Opticians of Florida. She has presented
continuing education courses on opticianry and UV safety throughout the country.

 | | Susan Stenson, MD, FACSReview Board Chair
Dr. Stenson is Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the New York University School of Medicine, where she is active in resident education and clinical research. Her current areas of interest are ultraviolet radiation protection for the eyes and quality of vision issues. She is an attending physician at Tisch Hospital, Bellevue Hospital, and the Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital. She is the Director of the Contact Lens Clinic at N.Y.U.-Bellevue. Dr. Stenson has served as a consultant to Transitions Optical, Inc. for more than a decade, most recently in the capacity of Global Medical Director.
Dr. Stenson is a Past-President of the Contact Lens Association of Ophthalmologists (CLAO) and has served as Specialty Councillor and Representative to the Residency Review Committee for the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO). She is a frequent lecturer at national and international meetings. Dr. Stenson has received Honor and Senior Honor Awards from both CLAO and the AAO for her participation in their educational programs and was awarded the Wichterle Medal from the Czech Contact Lens Society for her contributions to contact lens education and clinical research. In 2005, she was named one of the "50 Most Influential Women in Optical" by Vision Monday. |

Dr. Trick is vice-chairman for research, director of the Division of Clinical
Research and Epidemiology, senior staff scientist, and director of the Visual
Diagnostics Service at the Department of Ophthalmology and Eye Care Services
at Henry Ford Health System, Detroit, MI. He is also a professor in the Department
of Anatomy and Cell Biology at Wayne State University.
Dr. Trick earned his BA degree in psychology in 1974 from the University of
Miami, and received a PhD in physiological optics from Indiana University
in 1978. He was a National Research Service Fellow in Ophthalmology at the
University of Florida from 1979 to 1980. He is a fellow in the American Academy
of Optometry (AAO) and he received the first AAO Diplomat in Visual Electrodiagnostics
(2001). He has been a member of the International Society for Clinical Electrophysiology
of Vision, the American Diabetes Association, the American Glaucoma Society,
the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, the Optical Society
of America, and the International Research Group on Colour Vision Deficiencies.
Dr. Trick has served as vice chairman and chairman of the visual science section,
and vice chairman of the Papers and Program Committee for the American Academy
of Optometry. He is a member of the editorial board of Journal of Neuro-Ophthalmology and Documenta
Ophthalmologica, and has been an author, contributing editor, or reviewer
for numerous other academic journals. |

Dr. Jeffrey L. Weaver earned his optometry degree from Pennsylvania College of Optometry in 1985 and holds an MBA from Drury College and an MS in Physiological Optics from The Ohio State University. He currently serves as Adjunct (Full) Professor at the University of Missouri– St. Louis College of Optometry, and he is Chief of Optometry of the United States Army Reserve.
As Director of the Clinical Care Group of the American Optometric Association, he coordinates the activities of the AOA Commission on Ophthalmic Standards, including the AOA Seal of Acceptance program, as well as numerous committees including the Clinical Guidelines Coordinating Committee and Aviation Vision Committee.
He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and has received an AAO Diploma in Public Health and Environmental Vision. He is board certified in healthcare management as a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives. |

Born in Shanghai, Dr. Woo studied at the College of Optometry in Ontario, Canada. He then worked for 2 years in the Northern Ontario wilderness with the Canadian Red Cross mobile eye clinic. Dr. Woo received his PhD in physiological optics in 1970 and joined the faculty of the College of Optometry of Ontario/University of Waterloo.
Dr. Woo established a low-vision clinic at the University of Waterloo and introduced a didactic low-vision course into Waterloo’s optometry program in 1974. Later that year, he studied with Louise Sloan at Johns Hopkins University. In 1975 he became the first Canadian low-vision diplomate in the history of the American Academy of Optometry. In 1985, the University of Waterloo low-vision clinic was renamed the Centre for Sight Enhancement to appropriately reflect the broad range of clinical teaching, research, and service activities it hosted.
From 1987 to 1989, Dr. Woo helped develop the optometry program at Hong Kong Polytechnic University, as the founding head of the Department of Diagnostic Sciences (now renamed the Department of Optometry and Radiography). He taught for
3 months as visiting professor of Ophthalmology at the Sun Yat-sen University of Medical Sciences in Guangzhou, China, and then spent a year as director of the China Ophthalmic Education Program for CIBA Vision Atlanta and the CIBA Geigy Foundation in Basel, Switzerland. He also served as an honorary consultant for the China Disabled Persons Federation.
At the end of 1996, Dr. Woo retired from the University of Waterloo to become dean of the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences and chair and professor of optometry at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He has more than 145 publications to his credit. |

Dr. Young received his MD degree from Temple University Medical School in Philadelphia, PA, in 1983, and received postgraduate (intern) training in internal medicine at Mercy Catholic Medical Center in Darby, PA. He completed a residency in ophthalmology at the Scheie Eye Institute at the University of Pennsylvania, and became a board certified ophthalmologist in 1989.
Since 1995, Dr. Young has served as chairman of the Division of Ophthalmology at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia and has supervised comprehensive services including general ophthalmic surgery. He is also director of Einstein Eyewear, a full-service optical center. Prior to 1995, he was Director of Resident Education in Ophthalmology for the Eye Institute at Cooper Hospital Medical Center, affiliated with the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. Dr. Young has held clinical faculty appointments with the Veterans Administration Medical Center, and the Scheie Eye Institute, where he received the "Teacher of the Year" award in 1989.
Dr. Young is president of the American Association of Dispensing Ophthalmologists, and a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Medical Association, and the Philadelphia County Medical Society. He is on the advisory board of International Vision Expo and is a member of the Board of Trustees, Albert Einstein Healthcare Network. Dr. Young was listed for 3 years in Philadelphia Magazine’s Top Doctors issue. |

Dr. Ouliana Ziouzenkova was born in the Ukraine. She received BS and MS degrees from the Schewtchenko State University in Kiev and a PhD at the University of Graz in Austria. After moving to the United States, she earned PhDs from of the University of Southern California School of Pharmacy in Los Angeles and Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard University, in Boston, MA. Since 2007, she has been an Assistant Professor in the Department of Human Nutrition of the College of Education and Human Ecology at Ohio State University in Columbus, OH.
Dr. Ziouzenkova has published original research on peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR) and retinoid X receptor (RXR) activation, as well as on the relationship of metabolic regulatory mechanisms to such responses as adipogenesis, fat distribution, and systemic inflammation, and has lectured nationally and internationally on these and related subjects.
Dr. Ziouzenkova was awarded the 1998 and 2002 Young Investigators Awards from the Society for Free Radical Research International, the 2002 American Heart Association Katz Research Prize for Young Investigators, the 2004 Lerner Young Faculty Award at BWH, and the 2007 New Investigator Award from the Organization for the Study of Sex Differences, among other honors. |
